Kay Musical Instruments was founded by Henry “Kay” Kuhrmeyer on July 1, 1931. Although Henry quickly shifted production focus to all types of stringed instruments (including basses, violas and guitars), they didn’t enter the guitar pedal market until the late 1960s with a series of knobless, treadle-based delightfully odd plastic pedals. Each of these...

In 1973, effects legend Craig Anderton and John Lang launched Seamoon Inc., releasing their flagship fuzz pedal the same year: the Fresh Fuzz. Initially, a faulty enclosure design caused these plastic Bakelite pedals to shatter when guitarists stomped on them, so Seamoon began recasing them in metal enclosures within a few months. In the early 1980s, Brian Eno invented an effect called “Shimmer,” which was popularized in U2’s The Unforgettable Fire (1984). The effect mixed ambient reverb and octave effects in the reverb’s decay. The 3 Series Octave Reverb is our take on this classic effect that has been used for decades to allow the guitar to create pads and textures that fill out...

In 2012, I had a crazy idea for a tone shaping device that had never been done before in the world of guitar pedals. I wanted to create an effects pedal that replicated the hard to achieve sounds of "direct-in" electric guitar recordings that I loved. Bands like the Beatles, Spoon, WIlco, and Steely Dan had used this technique for years, but it was nearly...
